![]() ![]() ![]() German Village is notably different because its appearance has changed so little. The neighborhood is extremely dense ~ very often only inches separate neighboring structures, and many structures were built for multi-family use. People walk to their destinations, park on the street due to the overwhelming absence of driveways, and live life at a very pedestrian level. German Village does not have a recreated sense of history or kitschy Bavarian feel ~ rather, it is a neighborhood with architecture dating from the 1840s-1890s that has been preserved, and its use as a shared residential and commercial neighborhood has been maintained. Structures and sidewalks are orange masonry, and many streets (about half) are still brick pavers. Mary Church stands 197’ off the sidewalk and towers over everything around it. A 20+ story structure sits just north of the interstate bridge, and just south, in German Village, no structure is higher than three stories. Proceed with caution, and understand that there are few (if any) parking options at the hotel other than their valet parking.A highway bridge over Interstate 70 is all that separates the German Village Historic District from downtown Columbus, but as one looks east from the interstate, the difference between old and new is glaring. The hotel has a thief employee working in their valet parking lot, unless they have terminated someone since this happened since they admit nothing, I can only assume that they have not terminated the thief. The theft could have only occurred while the vehicle was valet parked with them. The remainder of our trip we were either in it, or it was locked. I have no way of knowing if that's true or not what I do know for a fact is that our vehicle was never out of our control during the trip except when it was valet parked at the hotel. They claimed that they checked the footage captured by the security camera, and did not see a theft occur. I contacted both the valet parking service, as well as the general manager of the hotel. I didn't discover that it was missing until we arrived home in Texas and unpacked the vehicle. It originally cost about $185, and it costs about $235 to replace it. We had a surge protector for our RV stored in our pickup when we valet parked it. However, we incurred a theft while our vehicle was valet parked at the hotel, and the hotel refuses to do anything to rectify this. We were guests at the hotel on June 5 for one night. And don't know who the African-American hotel employee gentleman is who greets EVERYONE in the lobby every morning but he does add a very nice touch. We stayed there MLK weekend for Saturday night. If there's any issues with the hotel itself, it's a couple of things that are out of your control. If you're headed to the CBJ game, it's no more than a 7-8 minute walk. We passed by one and no shots were fired after a bad deal. And not that it's a huge problem but along High Street you'll pass by the occasional drug deal involving OSU students. Word of caution though about the nightlife, DO NOT get a room on the Spruce Street side, as there's a club with a roof top bar that stays open until 2:30. So you can go hit that, then stumble into your room. Also it's a very busy area for nightlife. ![]() Very busy hotel for CBJ games and it's right across (kinda) from the convention center. We thought we'd give this location a shot because we're Hilton Honors members and wanted to try something new.
